I had the recent opportunity of traveling to Laguna Beach, CA for several portrait sessions. While on my travels I had the honor of working with this beautiful family. I chose to shoot the portrait session in a documentary style. This particular style of family portraiture is often called “A Day in the Life” portrait sessions. Day in the life portraits sessions work really well when smaller children are involved. Particularly 2 year olds, as their curiosity and need for independence is at a peak level. I love these portrait sessions as they allow the children to roam freely. They are happy…and the imagery is captured in a real, raw and true form to their personality during this stage of their childhood. Day in the life portrait sessions allow for a great story telling opportunity to capture what it’s truly like at this stage of parenting. I also beleive that this particular style of shooting is less stressful for the parents and their children. The children are not forced to smile or pose in any particular way, but rather allowed to play and have fun which brings out the natural smiles and happiness rather then a forced sitution. These images also work really well as a collage on walls or a press printed story telling album which is great option to display at children’s birthday parties. This particular family brought a picnic basket, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and blankets. They enjoyed a snack together which was fun for their child and more normal to what his day would be like if they went to the beach together as a family. The props gave me the opporunity to capture fun, adorable and relaxed photos!!! Here is a little sneak peek of all the fun we had together on the beautiful beach in Laguna, CA.
