Deni & Billy Engagement Proposal Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood | Portland, Oregon Wedding Photographer

Sometimes in life things don’t go as planned and Deni and Billy’s engagement is no different. On Valentine’s Day weekend, the couple traveled to Oregon for their annual ski trip with Deni’s mother and stepfather. Billy had planned to hang a banner from a ski lift at Mt. Hood asking Deni to marry him. But somewhere between their home in Chandler, AZ and their cabin outside of Government Camp in Oregon, Deni came down with food poisoning. Needless to say, skiing was out of the question, but, with a little convincing on Billy’s part, Deni agreed to some sightseeing and brunch on Saturday at the Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood.

The Fireside Brunch in the Cascade Dining Room is impressive but Deni had little appetite so when Billy first suggested dessert, she declined. “I turned him down at first but then he said there was a dessert he really thought I would like. So I agreed & we walked out of the dining room.” And there, in the entryway hung Billy’s banner proposing to Deni.

As you can see from the photos, Deni had been caught by surprise. And though things don’t always go as planned, sometimes they can work out in wonderful ways that we could never even have imagined. Chris and I just happened to be having brunch at the very next table. I couldn’t resist pulling my camera out to capture this incredible moment between two people we’d never met as it unfolded.

As silly as I felt, I approached them afterward with congratulations and my card so that I could send them the images. Through several email exchanges, we have built a wonderful connection. We are beyond thrilled that they have chosen us to capture their intimate wedding on February 14th, 2012.

Congratulations Deni & Billy. We look forward to getting to know the two of you throughout your engagement and wedding planning.

I have to say, this is pretty cool. Just goes to show that photographers should always have a camera by their side. 😀
